Download
This is the speed at which the picture reaches you. You need about 10 Mbps for Full HD and about 25 Mbps for 4K, for each screen watching at the same time.
Ping and swings
The ping is your connection's response time. Under 50 milliseconds is fine. Measure a few times in a row: if the results differ a lot, your connection is unsteady and a cable helps.
Measure where you watch
Run the test where the TV is and at the time you usually watch. The free compatibility check on this site does it in half a minute.
Several screens at once
If more people watch at home at the same time, add up the speed per screen. Two screens in 4K need about 50 Mbps together. If someone is gaming or downloading meanwhile, leave extra room. A lower picture quality on the second screen often goes a long way.
